GE Healthcare is bringing ecomagination to healthcare facilities through a comprehensive program to reduce our hospital customers' environmental footprint as well as their operating costs. Current ecomagination healthcare offerings range from Lean Six Sigma clinical workflow design, digital imaging and IT systems, to the latest in on-site power generation and water conserving technologies.
Introduced in 2008, GE Healthcare's Signa HDe 1.5T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system is one of the most energy-efficient 1.5T MRI systems commercially available. It is also the first medical imaging product from GE Healthcare to be recognized as an ecomagination offering after completing the company's rigorous internal environmental and operational evaluation. By employing efficient MRI gradients and an innovative water-cooling technology, the GE Signa HDe 1.5T uses approximately 62 percent less energy than GE’s previous generation MRI systems, while still allowing the MRI system to achieve outstanding image quality. This MRI system also reduces annual electricity use by about 100,000 kWh, equivalent to a projected saving of more than $10,000 per year under normal operating conditions in 2008 in the United States.
