NavLogix™ Technology Helps Fleet Operators Reduce Miles Traveled
GE Security’s NavLogix technology is designed to help customers improve business practices by providing real-time analysis of when and where fleet vehicles are being used. Its global positioning system (GPS) technology determines each vehicle’s location, while wireless communication relays additional data to a central server. Customers can view vehicle locations and routes using any web browser and receive e-mail alerts about after hours use or speeding vehicles.
California-based Sebastian Enterprises, a provider of security and communication systems to residential and business customers, projects cost reductions of approximately $150,000 in 2008 after adding NavLogix to its fleet of 75 trucks. Kentucky Hauling, which transports asphalt and crushed stone, is also using NavLogix and has increased its operating efficiency of 56 vehicles by more than 10 percent. With the ability to better match resources to the needs of its jobs, Kentucky Hauling is saving thousands of dollars in fuel usage and vehicle expense.
NavLogix features a compact location monitoring unit with cellular and GPS antennas. Units can be installed in every vehicle in the fleet. Depending on the application, the unit can be mounted in a discreet location such as under the driver’s seat or dashboard. Each unit connects to the power supply and goes into active mode whenever the ignition is turned on. On the road, GPS satellites communicate in real time with the onboard unit to determine the location, speed and direction of the vehicle.
The compact NavLogix location monitoring unit is easy to install and is also customizable. Generally, the unit transmits every five minutes once the ignition is on, but intervals can be set to whatever time users prefer. In addition, e-mail alerts can also be configured.
